World Bank Joins Forces with Global Expert in Green Public Procurement Training

A comprehensive capacity building programme was delivered by one of the foremost experts, Sanjay Kumar, during an intensive 5-day “Train the Trainers” program on Green Public Procurement. Sponsored by the World Bank, in collaboration with other multilateral development banks (MDBs) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the training brought together some of India’s top public procurement experts in a room.

The program aimed to equip procurement professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement Green Public Procurement (GPP) effectively in a real life multilateral funded development project. GPP promotes sustainable purchasing practices that protect the planet, enhance social welfare, and ensure value for money in government procurement.

Though the training was demanding, the positive feedback from seasoned public procurement experts affirmed the worth of the hard work. Their encouraging comments underscored the success of the program, which is poised to have a lasting impact on the way governments approach sustainable procurement. This initiative underscores the growing importance of training and capacity-building in Green Public Procurement, as governments worldwide increasingly recognize the power of sustainable purchasing to drive environmental and social change. Dr. Jellie Molino, an international GPP expert, assisted in delivering the entire programme to participants for five days.
